
Staff Training and Development

At SMC we aim to provide all our staff with the necessary tools and skills to perform to the highest levels and believe passionately in promoting from within. We strive to be the best in what we do. We look to develop the abilities of our staff through regular training both in-house and in partnership with all our respective Manufacturers.
Whichever career path is followed within our Company a training programme is developed and maintained in partnership with our respective manufacturers. Reaching each individual's full potential is our aim and we have successfully sponsored candidates through various university courses to achieve this goal. To assist staff in achieving this we offer a wide range of training and development opportunities with the Group.
Induction Training
It is important that all new team members undertake formal induction training. This training will commence from the first day of their employment and will last for six months. During this time new team members are trained, developed and reviewed. This will ensure they fully understand our mission statement and values, as well as fully understanding the responsibilities of the Group and their dealership.The HR Department also runs Corporate Induction Days with the support of operational staff . A summary of the induction process is detailed below. At this time all staff will also undertake various modules in relation to Health and Safety, as well as completing the relevant Human Resources documentation.
On the Job Training
Each General Manager is responsible for identifying the standard requirements for each job within the dealership. These standards will provide the basis for the individual's on the job training programme. Line managers take full responsibility for on the job training for their department to ensure team members are provided with the skills and knowledge to carry out their duties to the dealership standards. Line managers are also responsible for coaching and reviewing performance standards throughout the year, in line with our staff appraisal process. This process is essential to the success of the Group as it allows the skills of the workforce to move forward and take the business with it.Manufacturer Training Courses
To ensure that all staff are maximising their potential, the Group offers a wide range of training and development opportunities both in-house and through the Manufacturer.Each line manager is responsible for agreeing appropriate technical training courses with the franchise manufacturer. This helps staff like Vehicle Technicians keep up to date with modern technology and continue to provide exceptional customer service.
