The original Ford GT was a world-beating supercar, with a legendary record of four consecutive wins at the Le Mans race. There is about to be another, road-legal version of Ford GT on the road, and it arrives in SMC showrooms in 2017. Showcasing the culmination of decades of expertise and innovation, the new Ford GT is set to be a design icon and technological masterpiece.
This model will have a purposeful stance that echoes previous Ford racing cars. The circular tail lamps and low, wedge-shaped bonnet also evoke iconic Ford style and nod to the original Le Mans-winning model.
Designed to be aerodynamically efficient, the GT will have two large air ducts in the bonnet to aid air flow and two flying buttress wings at the sides for extra downforce. The balanced proportions and elegant lines ensure it always looks poised and ready to pounce. The race-focused design will also make the GT extremely lightweight as it is constructed from carbon fibre.
The GT will be mid-engined, powered by a finely tuned 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine with two turbochargers, which is expected to produce more than 600bhp. This makes it the most powerful EcoBoost engine Ford has ever built. Ford’s engineers have also developed a raft of sophisticated engine technologies to maximise the power output and enhance the drive, such as an advanced fuel injection system. The GT is estimated to accelerate from 0-60mph in under four seconds and reach a top speed of more than 200mph.
The GT will be exclusively available with rear-wheel drive, making it lively and engaging to drive. The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission moves up through the gears with speed and precision, allowing the GT to accelerate smoothly and rapidly.
