Set for an early 2016 release, the new Ford Ranger has garnered considerable praise since its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Ford’s flagship pick-up has a solid reputation for hard-wearing toughness, and is a defining icon of American brawn. The next generation of the model continues the legacy, with a redesigned look and formidable off-road capabilities.
The previous Ranger’s conventional grille and smooth headlights are replaced with a huge trapezoidal front end and sharper lights to conform to the new Ford identity. The impressively modern look is compounded by sleek lines and muscular contours that complement the huge loading bay. From the first glance, you can see that the Ford Ranger is built for heavy-duty performance.
A high ground clearance is a sign of the pick-up’s off-road prowess, and the vehicle now benefits from switchable four-wheel drive and a locking rear differential. The Ranger’s large alloy wheels and sheer bulk allow the truck to wade through 80cm of water – while hauling an immense 3.5 tonnes of cargo.
Alongside attractive pulling power, owners will now enjoy a far more refined cabin experience from the Ranger. The new model has a contemporary, car-like interior built with premium comfort in mind. A wealth of technology supports the upgraded, sophisticated feel, in which the latest Sync 2 eight-inch touchscreen navigation and infotainment system have been fitted to enhance the engaging drive.
Engines have likewise been updated for the 2016 Ranger. By cutting fuel consumption by 18 percent, Ford has fine-tuned the 3.2-litre Duratorque five-cylinder diesel engine to perfection. Similar efficiency levels have also been achieved with the 158bhp and 122bhp engine options.
