Mitsubishi has won the coveted Low Carbon Carmaker of the Year award at the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership awards evening. Hosted in partnership with Cenex in Milton Keynes, the lively gala dinner celebrated the low carbon champions of 2014-15.
Mitsubishi’s success in this area has delighted both motorists and industry experts, with the game-changing Outlander PHEV transforming the plug-in hybrid electric market overnight upon its debut in 2014. Before the PHEV, electric vehicles were limited to small city cars with chic looks and delicate frames. The Outlander PHEV showed that off-road SUVs can perform as hybrids and also deliver fantastic value for money, combining powerful off-road capabilities with unprecedented low emissions.
Such is the Outlander PHEV’s success, the SUV model now accounts for around half of the plug-in market and is by far the UK’s favourite plug-in vehicle.
At the dinner, attended by around 400 industry and low carbon transport representatives, judges stated that the Outlander PHEV won because the SUV had a transformative effect on the market. They praised the plug-in vehicle’s competitive price and impressive sales, particularly in the company car segment.
LowCVP Managing Director, Andy Eastlake, said: “It’s always a pleasure to celebrate success and there were many reasons to commend the contribution of this year’s entries to cutting emissions, both of greenhouse gases and local pollutants.”
