Walking for a Worthy Cause

Two members of the SMC team, Mike Carroll and Sue Loader, are completing a 200 mile charity walk for Cancer Research.  They are retracing Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk over 12 gruelling days.

The Coast to Coast walk was devised by the late Alfred Wainwright in 1972 and continues to be one of the most popular long-distance walks in the world. Alfred Wainwright was a well-known writer and hill-walker; he described the walk as covering ‘the grandest territory in the north of England.’

The Coast to Coast Walk begins in St Bees on the West coast of Cumbria, beside the Irish Sea. It then crosses three National Parks with some of England’s most stunning scenery. Walkers can enjoy trekking through the mountains of the Lake District, across the Pennines and down Swaledale. The walk then travels through the North York Moors and on to the East coast of England, where the walk ends in Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire.

Sue and Mike want to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause. They have so far exceeded their target of £1,000 which is an excellent achievement, but would be so grateful if the number continues to rise. No matter how large or small the donation is, every little helps. If you would like to sponsor them you can do so at www.justgiving.com/sue-loader.

Sue and Mike will be posting photos on the SMC Facebook page along the way to show how they are getting on, so don’t forget to ‘like’ our page so you can see their progress.

Thank you in advance for your kind support. We wish Sue and Mike the best of luck!
