The Ford Transit Connect is the larger of two compact vans produced by the American marque, and it’s set to benefit from some major changes.
Here are just some of the highlights…
This popular commercial vehicle features some notable exterior design upgrades, including a front grille that is now graced with a three-bar design – a fixture of Ford’s new car range. The vehicle’s headlights are sleeker too, and the overall effect provides the front fascia with a smarter look.
Inside, the new Connect sports a redesigned dashboard and a new central control area that allows for a six-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is available on higher specification grades. The latter uses Ford’s SYNC 3 software, too.
A 1.5-litre 99bhp diesel unit has been added to the range of Connect engine options. This is particularly welcome news, especially since the van is already the most fuel-efficient in its class.
The existing 1.0-litre petrol engine has been upgraded in order to optimise efficiency and further reduce CO2 emissions. This three-cylinder unit features cylinder-deactivation technology too, allowing the vehicle to run on just two cylinders at lower speeds in order to deliver enhanced fuel-efficiency.
All models are now fitted with six-speed manual transmission as standard, adding an extra gear, which is more than is offered by most rivals. Meanwhile, eight-speed automatic transmission is available as an option with the aforementioned 1.5-litre diesel engine.
A range of driver aids new to this segment include an Intelligent Speed Limiter, Side Wind Stabilisation, Active Park Assist and Pre-collision Assist, making the Connect safer than ever.
