Third-generation Focus RS Poised to Impress in Geneva

Hot hatch enthusiasts will be able to view the new Ford Focus RS for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March – and the new model certainly appears able to deliver all the thrills demanded by the committed driver. With menacing looks, lightning pace and an all-new four-wheel drive system, the third-generation edition follows in the footsteps of classic high-performance Fords like the Escort RS1600 and Escort RS Cosworth.

The low, wide front profile of the vehicle is accentuated by its mean, narrow headlights, muscular bonnet, and gaping grille, air intakes and front apron. The 19" alloy wheels look particularly imposing, given the low curve of the vehicle's roofline.

At the rear the large rear spoiler, quad exhausts and raised haunches leave no doubt that this is the most vigorous RS to date.

The car will also offer four distinctive paint schemes – Nitrous Blue, Stealth Grey, Absolute Black, and Frozen White. Inside, low-set Recaro sports seats provide excellent comfort, whilst an 8" touchscreen offers access to a variety of infotainment functions.

It is the engine's tremendous abilities and the outstanding driving dynamics, however, that makes the new Focus RS a truly special vehicle. As well as an exhilarating roar to raise the pulse of the most jaded hot hatch driver, the 2.3 litre Ecoboost petrol engine supplies in excess of 316bhp, and is believed to be deliver almost 450Nm of torque. Full performance figures will be released in Geneva, but can scarcely fail to be impressive.

The new model has also been designed for stability as well as power, with the firm suspension complementing the accurate six-speed manual transmission, capable four-wheel drive system and Dynamic Torque Vectoring.

The Geneva Motor Show will be held between the 5th and 15th of March – and the Focus RS is set to be one of its stars. Production is expected to start late in 2015, with the first models being delivered in spring 2016. Keep returning to the News section of the SMC Ford website for further details about the Focus RS.
