FAQs about servicing and repairs at SMC

Getting your car serviced regularly and repaired when necessary is essential to ensuring it has a long and healthy life on the road.

We understand that not everyone knows as much as we do about cars, so we’ve put together some FAQs as helpful pointers. Read below for our advice, and feel free to call us or enquire online if you have any questions about what we can do for your car or van.

How often should you have your vehicle serviced?

Most cars require a service at least once a year. Do bear in mind that there are other times your car will need to be serviced, for example new cars should have their oil changed every 5,000 miles. If you are unsure as to whether your car is in need of a service, give us a call and we will let you know the best time to book in.

When do vital parts need replacing?

Items like cam belts and batteries need replacing after lots of use to make sure your car continues to perform well. The best way to find out if any parts need replacing is to check your manual and servicing handbook. Or book your car in for a health check, where a technician can tell you if any parts are in need of attention.

What do the lights on the dashboard mean?

The symbols that light up on your dashboard are your best friend. They will tell you if something isn’t working properly so you can quickly book it in for a service or repair before it gets any worse. To find out what each symbol means, have a look in your handbook.

What do you need to do with tyres?

Healthy tyres are important for keeping you safe on the road. They need to be kept at the correct pressure, which is usually displayed on the inside of your car’s door. It’s also important that the tyres have at least 1.6mm of tread depth by law, and they should be free from any cracks. If they are looking worn, it’s best to replace them as soon as possible. Speak to the team at SMC Cars about your tyres as we can tell you the exact tyres you need for your car.
