The new Suzuki Swift has been given a completely fresh new look for 2017. Built on a longer wheelbase for extra space and comfort, and boasting a host of new features. The stylish new edition of the Swift will happily compete with the best in the supermini class.
All models now have five doors, but rear door handles are discretely positioned in the C-pillars, giving the new Swift a sleek, sporty look. The Swift range starts with the entry-level SZ3, which has 15-inch alloys, and LED daytime running lights. An upgrade to the SZ-T adds front fog lights, a rear parking camera and 16-inch alloys, while the top-of-the range SZ5 gets LED headlights, for a contemporary look as well as enhanced visibility. There is plenty of scope for personalisation and you can choose from a range of ten colours for exterior styling, including some special two-tone options.
The bright spacious interior is classy, comfortable and well-equipped. Premium quality materials are in evidence, with plush upholstery and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. Air conditioning is provided on all models, automatic on the SZ5 so you can stay cool whatever the weather. The Swift now has one of the biggest boots in its class at 265 litres, which is 25% larger than its predecessor’s boot capacity and can be extended to 579 litres if you fold down the rear seats.
The Swift offers dynamic performance thanks to its new lightweight platform. Beneath the bonnet you will find either a 1.0-litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine or a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine with five-speed manual transmission. The 1.2-litre engine will give you a return of 65.7mpg. The Swift is also available in a four-wheel drive edition. If you want to boost your green credentials, you can select the mild hybrid option, which uses a lithium ion battery to store energy recovered from braking and a starter / generator to enhance the efficiency of the stop/start system, and assist with hard acceleration. The mild hybrid Swift gives increased fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. A Swift Sport edition is due to be launched in 2018, powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder 138bhp turbo petrol engine.
Equipment standards are high right across the range. The entry level SZ3 is fitted with a DAB radio and Bluetooth® connectivity, with a touchscreen infotainment system and smartphone mirrorlink display and 3D Sat Nav being added in the SZ-T trim. The SZ5 comes with a 4.2-inch LCD screen, displaying all the vehicle information you need. Additional features available include Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Safety features such as auto emergency braking and adaptive cruise control are fitted on higher-spec editions of the Swift.
