The Suzuki Vitara S goes turbo

A mid-sized crossover with impressive off-road abilities and efficient yet powerful engines, the Suzuki Vitara continues to be one of the best new SUVs to buy. The 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show saw a new addition to the Vitara range, one that promises to increase the popularity of one of the Japanese firm’s most popular models.

The new S grade will give the Vitara even more clout – the new 1.4-litre BoosterJet turbo petrol engine generates 138bhp. This new engine comes in response to comments that the Vitara lacked a forceful petrol unit to compete with its crossover rivals.

The new engine uses direct-injection technology to access 220Nm of torque for optimum force in acceleration. That equates to 64Nm more torque and 20bhp more than the naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre engine fitted to the standard Vitara. The extra power is instantly noticeable in both city environments and out in the countryside.

Combined with more muscular performance are the new model’s impressive economy figures. The new Vitara S petrol engine is certain to improve upon the already attractive peak of 50.4mpg combined, as well as the low emissions of 130g/km of CO2.

Alongside enhanced power and economy, buyers can expect a sporty new look for the Vitara S turbo. The new five-slot chrome grille debuts as part of Suzuki’s design language, giving the Vitara S a distinctive road presence. The cabin boasts a leather and suede trim, complete with stylish red accents to highlight the SUV’s premium quality.
